'Reiki', or: 'Usui Reiki Ryoho' - the Usui Method of Reiki Healing - was developed in the early 20th century by a Japanese gentleman named Mikao Usui, as a result of a mystical experience he had while meditating atop Kurama Yama - a sacred mountain to the north of the Japanese city of Kyoto.
